Meet Coach Aiden

A running coach who tells you the truth.

Aiden is the AI coach inside RunEQ. He builds your plan from what you've actually run, explains every workout before you lace up, reads it lap by lap when you're done — and then you can ask him about it.

“2:24 to 2:00 is 24 minutes to close — a serious reach, and the current data does not support promising it.”

Coach Aiden, opening a real 21-week half marathon plan
The Coach's Verdict in RunEQ: Aiden explains the runner's starting point of 2:23:39 against a 2:00:00 goal.

Most apps hand you the goal time you typed in. Aiden shows you the gap.

Before your plan starts, Aiden reads your recent training from Strava or Garmin and writes you a letter: where you are today, what your goal really asks for, and what you'll need to prove along the way. If the goal is a stretch, he says so — then builds the plan to close it, one earned step at a time.

This is RunEQ's founder's own plan. He's training on it right now.

Earn It — how RunEQ training works

Aiden tells you the truth on day one. Earn It is how you close the gap.

No pace jumps because the calendar says so. You get faster when your training proves you're ready — which is how you get to your goal safely.

  1. An honest starting point

Aiden reads your last six months of Strava. No quiz, no guessing. You get the real number — like 2:09 when you asked for 2:00.

  2. The plan bends

Ride, hike, swim, or sandwich a run between two bike legs. Aiden coaches the workout you actually did, not the one on the calendar.

  3. Real insights after every workout

A lap-by-lap read of what happened and what it means for your goal. Then ask him about it.

  4. Earn your level-ups

Every week Aiden looks at all your running — easy days, long runs, hard sessions. When you've proven you're ready, faster paces are yours.

  5. Race-day confidence

Checkpoints along the way prove the fitness is real, so race day is validation of work you've already done — not a gamble.

Coach's Office progress view: original gap 23 min 39 sec, 2 min 13 sec closed, 21 min 26 sec remaining, with baseline and current earned paces.
The gap, closing. Three weeks in: 2 min 13 sec closed, and training paces 8 seconds per mile faster.
Proof along the way: checkpoints at weeks 6, 10, 14 and 18, from a surge long run to goal half marathon pace.
Checkpoints at weeks 6, 10, 14 and 18 — the proof along the way.

Other apps level you up off one fast workout. Aiden looks at your whole week.

Easy days kept easy, long runs finished under control, hard sessions executed — all of it counts as evidence. A single great interval session doesn't move your paces, and one bad day doesn't erase your progress.

After every run, Aiden reads what actually happened.

Not a map and a pace average. A lap-by-lap read of the session, in the context of your plan, your terrain — even your altitude.

Coach Aiden's session read: lap-by-lap analysis of a tempo run, noting that holding threshold pace at 5,000 feet in Medellín is harder than at sea level.

“At 5,000 feet in Medellín, holding that effort is legitimately harder than sea level… which is exactly what that 155 bpm in Lap 4 reflects. You didn't blow up — you executed.”

Coach Aiden, reading a real tempo run
The payoff: a tempo run wrapped in two bike legs delivered about 7 RunEQ miles of aerobic work with only 5 miles of ground contact.

Then ask him about it.

Every workout read and every weekly review has a chat box. Why did my heart rate drift? Should I have pushed the last rep? What does this mean for Sunday? Aiden answers from your plan and your data — not a generic chatbot guess.

Before the run, you know exactly what today is for.

Every session comes with its structure, target and source — and Aiden's read on how to run it today, for you.

  1. Workout details for a Classic Tempo Run: target pace, structure bar, effort description and how to run it.

    The assignment

Structure, pace, effort and where the workout comes from — Pfitzinger, Higdon, McMillan. The bar you see is exactly what your watch will show.

  2. Coach Aiden's pre-workout read for 600m repeats, explaining the recovery discipline and adjusting expectations for running at 5,000 feet.

    Aiden's read on it

Why this session matters for your goal, the mistake to avoid, and what to expect today — like your heart rate running high at altitude.

  3. Post-workout read comparing target against what happened: quality efforts 9:44 to 10:07 per mile versus a 10:00 target, held.

    Target vs. what happened

Your run comes in from Garmin or Strava and lands next to the assignment: pace, effort, cost, terrain.

Every week ends with a real review.

Aiden looks at the whole week — what you ran, what you rode, what you skipped — and tells you straight. Completed 2 of 5 sessions? He'll say so, give you credit for what you did execute, and tell you what to put back on the calendar.

“The workouts you missed matter for development, and that's what we'll build toward. But what you did complete, you executed cleanly.”

Coach Aiden, a real week 2 review

Each review ends with what it means for your race, the plan for next week, and whether you've earned faster paces. And yes — you can ask him questions about that too.

Week 2 Verdict: Progressing well. Coach Aiden's full weekly review.

Life happened? Tell Aiden.

Legs are trashed, the track is closed, work blew up. Tell him in plain words — or pick a direction — and he reshapes the day without losing what it was for.

Life Adaptations: reshape today's session with options such as same stimulus a different way, make it easier, make it harder, switch to Cyclete, or cross-train instead.

Seven ways to reshape today

  • Tell Aiden what's going onHe sorts the day out from plain language.
  • Same stimulus, different wayA different workout that does the same job. Coach's pick.
  • Make it easierLower intensity, same purpose.
  • Make it harderDenser or different work when you're feeling it.
  • Cross-train insteadPool, bike, rower, elliptical, stairs or swim.
  • Brick workoutRun and bike combined.
  • Move itShift the session to another day.

Cross-training that's actually prescribed

Missing an interval day doesn't mean "go do 30 minutes of cardio." For that one session, Aiden offers 24 structured alternatives built to hit the same stimulus:

  • Pool running 400m repeats, 800m repeats, pyramids, speed bursts
  • Swimming 25s, 50s, 100s, descending ladder
  • Elliptical 1-on/1-off, pyramids, 3-minute repeats, Tabata
  • Rowing 500m and 1000m repeats, pyramids, max efforts
  • Bike sprints, 90-second power, 3-minute repeats, Tabata
  • Stairs power intervals, Tabata climb, pyramids, 30/30s

Cross-training earns RunEQ miles, so the week's work is counted honestly.

Heads-up, coach. Travel, a crazy week, a sick kid — give Aiden a heads-up and he adjusts the plan around it, because he already knows where you are in it.

Injury Recovery Mode. Reshapes training around what you can safely do and builds a gradual return to running. RunEQ adjusts training; it doesn't diagnose injuries or replace a clinician.

Plans are everywhere. A coach isn't.

What runners don't get is a coach who knows the plan, sees the work, and talks to them about it.

Built for running. Not just prompting.

RunEQ isn't a chatbot with a pretty interface. Behind Aiden is more than 100,000 lines of purpose-built software: the training science, the adaptive workout logic, the fitness analysis that reads your runs, the Garmin integration, and the cross-training engine. Aiden is the coach who understands how it all fits together.

The AI is part of RunEQ.
It isn't all of RunEQ.

Who built this

Built by a runner who wanted this coach.

I'm Brad — just a regular guy who turned into a software engineer and spent about 20 years building enterprise software. I wanted better coaching for myself than I was getting from other running apps and plans, so I built RunEQ. It grew into something way bigger than I planned, and it's going to keep growing — you should see my roadmap.

I train on RunEQ myself, and every screen on this site is from my own plan.

If you really want to get to know me, hang out on my YouTube channel.

Questions runners ask first

Is Coach Aiden a real person?

No. Aiden is an AI coach. His workouts come from established coaching methods — Pete Pfitzinger, Hal Higdon, Greg McMillan and others — and he coaches from your actual plan and training data, not generic advice. He's direct by design: he'd rather tell you a goal is a stretch than promise something your training doesn't support.

Can I really ask him questions?

Yes. Every post-workout read and weekly review has a chat where you can ask Aiden about it — why a rep fell apart, whether to push Sunday's long run, what a heart-rate drift means. He answers with your plan and data in front of him.

What does Early Access cost?

Every plan starts with a $15 first month. After that, Month-to-Month is $19.99 a month; a 10-Week Build for a 5K or 10K is $34.99 paid up front (your first month at $15 plus $19.99 for the rest of your build); a Race Build is $54.99 paid up front for up to 20 weeks (your first month at $15 plus $39.99 for the rest of your build), and Annual is $114 paid up front for your first 12 months (your first month at $15 plus $99 for the other 11), then $99 a year. Builds are paid once, up front, and cover the weeks stated. Your Early Access rate stays the same for as long as you stay subscribed. These are Early Access prices — they go up when RunEQ moves to General Availability. Payments go through Stripe.

What is a Race Build?

One price for one half or full marathon. You get up to 20 weeks with Coach Aiden — base, build, taper and race day — for $54.99 total. If your plan is shorter than 20 weeks, the extra weeks are yours to keep training with Aiden. Training for a 5K or 10K? The 10-Week Build covers ten weeks for $34.99.

Do I need to download an app?

No. RunEQ was built web-first: it works like an app on your phone with nothing to install, and opens full-size on your desktop for planning. Native Android and iPhone apps are coming soon, and your account will carry over.

Which watches and apps does it work with?

Garmin and Strava bring in your training history and completed runs. Structured running workouts can be sent straight to Garmin watches.

Do I have to cross-train?

No. You can run every workout as written. Cross-training is there when you need it, and it's prescribed with the same purpose as the run it replaces.

What are RunEQ miles?

A training-equivalent unit that gives credit for cross-training like cycling or pool running. They aren't literal running miles, and RunEQ doesn't claim every activity builds the same adaptations as running.

Can I cancel? What about refunds?

Cancel anytime. Month-to-Month: you keep access through the month you've paid for. 10-Week and Race Builds are one-time purchases that never renew. Annual renews at your founding member rate unless you cancel before renewal — canceling stops the renewal, but doesn't refund the rest of your year. If you change your mind, Builds and Annual can be refunded within 14 days of purchase, minus the $15 first month. After that, payments aren't refundable. Billing error or an unexpected renewal? Contact us and we'll make it right.

What happens when my build ends?

Nothing renews automatically. When your 10-Week Build or Race Build ends, you can extend to a full year or continue month to month — your choice. Extend within 30 days of finishing your build and you keep your founding member rate.

Does RunEQ diagnose injuries?

No — Aiden doesn't diagnose injuries. Tell him what hurts and he'll adjust your plan and suggest which cross-training to use or avoid while you recover. For anything serious, see a doctor.
